Beauty Tip Mondays: The Chop!

“Short hair, no care” is the new “long hair, don’t care”! The latest trend to make its rounds is the big chop! Everyone is (painfully) cutting their beautiful tresses into little balls of fluff and they look great- it’s a refreshing new look for many.

If you are looking to chop of some inches this summer and are not too sure what you want done exactly we have some tips on how you can successfully cut your hair.

If you are someone who rarely experiments with your hair you will love Leighton Meester’s new look. Its quite the dramatic change, however ‘Queen B’ cut her beautiful mane recently and she looks stunning! Her cut is quiet generic although she opted for soft edges rather than sharp and lightened her locks which compliments her features.

If you are trend forward and have already got your hair growing back from its cut, then why not add a fun fringe like “It” girl Alexa. Her staple short bob and heavy fringe is to die for, it keeps you from looking plain and boring and is always a great way to revamp the ‘old’ cut.

katy-perry-green-hair-cosmopolitian-2-ftrTaking it up a notch is Katy Perry, who changes her hair colour drastically at least twice a year. If you are going to cut your hair you might as well go the full mile and colour it. It adds a bit of character and makes your short hair cut louder. The popular colour at the moment is this emerald green/blue which is pretty out there. Don’t worry- you can go permanent or keep it safe with hair chalks; there are plenty of ways to be edgy without damaging your hair.

So now you have cut your hair and don’t know how to style it? Don’t worry, we got you covered! Check out Ashley Tisdale, who shared her big chop with the world via a cool collage on her Instagram! She shows us a couple ways to style short hair for all occasions- you can argue that you can do less with short hair but that’s not true, you can do so much more; wear it up, down, in the middle, edgy or classy!

It can get a little scary chopping of your beautiful hair but as the leading ladies in the industry are doing it, its become more and more clear that a big chop is the beginning of something wonderful.

Beauty Tip Mondays: Gradient Nails

We’re loving wearing a pop of colour on our nails this Summer and one of our favourite nail art trends is the ombre look! It’s a little tricky to master but once you get the hang of it, the gradient effect looks amazing and can be achieved using any of your favourite colour combinations! Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create this fab summer look!

1. Paint your nails with a white base coat. This step is optional, but a white base coat will give your coloured polishes something to cling to and really make them pop!

2. Take a plastic sheet (the lid off a piece of tupperware will do!) and pour a drop of your coloured polishes beside each other in the order you would like them to appear on your nails.

3. Take a toothpick or a cocktail stick and gently swirl the edges of each shade in to each other so that they begin to blend.

4. Get a clean makeup sponge and dip it in to the nail polishes before dabbing on to your nails. You may have to repeat this step a few times to build up the colour and make them blend properly.

5. Remove any excess polish from around your nails using nail polish remover and finish with a clear top coat.

Et voila! You now have super cool, summery gradient nails. If this isn’t enough, you can jazz them up even more by painting a simple design over them or adding rhinestones for extra “wow” factor!

Have you attempted this ombre nail art? What is your favourite colour combination?

Guest Blog: Tropic Thunder by Scouse Bird Problems

Most of you will now be on your final countdown for your big holiday of the year (sly that I’ve already had mine). Whether it’s Ibiza or Cancun, New York or Thailand that you’re jetting off to; one of your top priorities will be your holiday wardrobe!

Airlines are getting stingier and stingier when it comes to luggage allowances, so to combat the blatant discrimination against the fashion enthusiasts (and all Scouse birds in general) it’s important to get some statement pieces that can also work in several different scenarios.

On my recent trip to Barcelona, I chose to bring Rare’s Black Tropical Print V Neck Kimono (Was £39, Now £20) as it’s great for wearing over a bikini for the beach or team it with a pair of shorts and you’re good to go shopping or sightseeing – like what I did. I love the colours and you can’t beat a good tropical print.

Which leads me onto my next choice, this lovely Tropical Print Halter Neck Midi Dress (Was £52, Now £30) with optional belt. Perfect for those meals out and a cocktail as the sun goes down over the sea while showing off your sexy silhouette that you’ve no doubt spent months in the gym perfecting. Side boob bonus, of course! ;)

Wherever you’re heading and whatever you wear (make sure it compliments your tan obv!) have a fantastic time.

Beauty Tip Mondays: The Ultimate Festival Survival Kit

We love festival season here at Rare HQ but admittedly, we’d enjoy them a little more if it wasn’t for the lack of showers, cramped tents and the UK’s rainy tendency (hands up if you’re with us). However, that’s all part of the experience and why we always make sure to pack our festival survival kits to keep us looking and feeling as put together as possible over the festival weekend. Here’s what we take with us!

Dry Shampoo

Rare London Festival

Dry shampoo is a MUST at festivals for keeping that three-day-old hair looking a bit more forgivable. Spritz a little in to your roots in the morning and massage in to keep any greasiness at bay!

Hand Sanitizers

Rare London Festival

Festival toilets are often a traumatic experience for most festival goers and hand-washing facilities are usually few and far between. Hand sanitizers are a life saver at festivals for keeping the germs away and they are small enough to just slip in to your bag or pocket and take it wherever you go!

Rare London Festival

Okay, we know that festival fashion is one of the most exciting parts of the weekend and you want to show off those crop tops and floral kimonos, but it won’t be much fun when you get drenched in the rain! Besides, there are always those really cute waterproof jackets to invest in so that you can look cool whilst still keeping dry!

Rare London Festival

On the other hand, if you are lucky enough to get a sunny weekend during your festival, don’t forget to pack sunscreen. A sunburn isn’t much fun either!

Rare London Festival

At a festival, you are most likely going to be dancing away in the middle of a huge crowd of people, so be prepared to sweat! Carry your favourite deodorant to keep yourself smelling fresh!

Getting muddy is all part of the festival experience, so pack these essentials and just have fun! Are you attending any festivals this year? Comment & share your festival essentials with us!
